Crazy Feather Outfitters (CFO) and Gerry Glasco began duck hunting in Northern Mexico in the early 1990´s in and along the Laguna Madre Bay located along the northeastern gulf coast of Mexico. CFO quickly became known among serious water fowlers as the place to go as hunters returned home each winter with accounts of huge concentrations of redheads and pintails native to the coastal are of the Laguna Madre. Vast concentrations of waterfowl combined with the opportunity to hunt with well trained and knowledgeable guides quickly combined to put Crazy Feather Outfitters at the top of the list for duck hunting in Mexico.
CFO´s success in Northern Mexico led to their development of the newest and hottest waterfowl area in southern Mexico, the rice fields and flooded swamps in the area of the Yucatan peninsula and to the south as far as the states of Tobasco and Campeche.
Gerry Glasco, who grew up hunting in the famous waterfowl area of Southern Illinois, where the Mississippi and Ohio rivers merge, developed the CFO duck hunting adventure. The duck blinds, guides, boats, vehicles, decoys, labs, etc. reflect Gerry’s desire produce the most successful and memorable hunts possible for all of his hunters.
The attention to detail and dedication to be the best in the hunting business has allowed CFO to develop a very dedicated and loyal clientele that returns each winter. This base of serious waterfowl hunters has also allowed CFO to lease the best ranches available for their hunters each winter.
Glasco credits his friend, the World Champion Goose Caller Tim Grounds, who provided tremendous input into the development of the duck hunting operation and the training of the Mexican guides. Tim made annual treks to the CFO Lodge and provided training to the guides on putting out decoy spreads, as well as providing calls and teaching the guides how to blow them.
CFO and owner Gerry Glasco have consistently produced great hunts over the last 15 years despite the challenges created by a very changing habitat each winter due to great differences in rainfall from year to year. Some seasons are very wet with large amount of flooding and others are very dry due to the tropical storms which may or may not affect the area each year.
Also significant to the success of CFO is Gerry Glasco´s ability to retain the same set of guides from year to year. Most of the guides in the CFO organization now have over 10 years of experience hunting ducks in the ponds, swamps and remote areas that Mexico provides. This experience provides CFO clients a greater opportunity to obtain the “once in a lifetime” hunt they pursue each winter on the trip south of the border. |
