FAQ

FAQs

Q: How long does it take to cross the border?
  A:

Border crossing varies from day to day and season to season, but almost never does it take more than an hour.

Q: Should I bring my own gun?
  A:

That depends on you the individual hunter and how particular you are about what gun you shoot. CFO keeps a nice selection of Benelli automatics in camp, and it greatly simplifies the paperwork and border crossing, however a great many of our shooters are very serious and bring their own guns.

Q: How difficult is it to bring guns into Mexico?
  A:

It is not any problem, but it will take between 20 and 45 minutes at the bridge to check guns into Mexico authorities. Actually it is easier now than ever, as you no longer need a police letter, or 8 passport photos as hunters were required to obtain and forward in the pst. There is a $150.00 extra charge for the Mexican Gun Permit and processing, however.

Q: What is your charge for renting shotguns?
  A:

There is no charge. Guns are included in price of trip. Not included are shells and tips. Trip is $3,200.00, and shells and tips will normally be around $300.00 for a duck/quail hunt.

Q: How many coveys will we see?
  A:

It depends on many factors, all of which vary greatly. Each season seems to vary from year to year, but it also depends on the environmental conditions, as well as your own physical state. However, we can assure you that if you hunt with us over a period of seasons you will find more than 20-25 coveys per day.

Q: What is the status of the bad guys in the border towns. There have been a lot of stories about kidnappings, shootings, etc. Sounds like New Orleans.
  A:

We have not had any problems during the last few years, although there has been a lot of publicity about the problems created by the drug trade on both sides of the border. However, Mexico bars, nightclubs, and restaurants along the border are not recommended. At the lodge and in our town of San Fernando, it is very quiet and the local politicians, police, and business owners value greatly the American hunters that come each year and hunters are treated accordingly.

Q: Where should we fly into? Brownsville, Harlingen or McAllen?
  A:

Brownsville or Harlingen.

Q: At present, it looks like we will have 8 people, but I need a few weeks to get firm commitments. is there any problem with holding the Nov. 18 plus dates for a month or so until I can get things firmed up?
A: If you chose to book, we can send you an invoice and you will collect deposits (50%) from your hunters. This needs to be done as quickly as possible so that dates are firm and group is solid. Normally groups take 2 weeks to get everything together. Final half of payment is due 60 days prior to trip. The deposit and final payment is what we have found keeps groups from falling apart at the last minute before trip as almost always there are last minute obstacles.
