Pheasant Run - South Dakota

Pheasant Hunting
Harold, South Dakota

Crazy Feather Outfitters and Rocky Ridge Hunting Club located near Harrold, South Dakota combine to give our hunters the best wild pheasant hunting opportunity available over pointing dogs. Rocky Ridge is located in the heart of what is known as the best wild pheasant area in South Dakota.

Rocky Ridge Hunting Club is located about 25 minutes east of Pierre, South Dakota on owner Wade Jones´ 12,000 acre farm. Wade is an excellent farmer and keeps the grounds in immaculate shape with CRP acreage for nesting and cover, and many acres of food plots. This provides the best cover and feed for the abundant populations of wild pheasant on Jones farm each year.

Crazy Feather Outfitters, relocates their string of English Pointers and Brittany Spaniels from Mexico to South Dakota in early fall. The pointers are unbelievable due to amount of birds killed over them each year in Mexico and South Dakota.  The elaborate dog rigs and large string of pointers allow our hunters to hunt not only driven pheasant in the morning, but to shoot pheasant over pointers in the afternoon.

Many hunters will choose to pair up after lunch and take one of our outstanding Brittany Spaniels or pointers out for a long walk in the afternoon for a quiet and peaceful hunt. Hunting without a guide and a close working pointing dog is a thrill that hunters will not find in most commercial settings.

Morning hunts will be in groups and of the traditional drives that tend to be most productive. CFO and their guides will set the hunters up as “drivers” and “blockers” each morning.

Gerry Glasco and his CFO staff heads up the South Dakota operation, and their attention to detail is apparent from the time the hunters arrive at the lodge.

Lodging is provided on the grounds at the Jones farm. All hunters are provided individual rooms. Meals are available at the beautiful restaurant and dining area located on the Jones farm. The restaurant was newly constructed in 2003 and is only open during the pheasant season.

Hunters also will enjoy the sporting clay range located at the restaurant on the Jones farm.

Hunters will fly commercially into either Pierre, SD or Sioux Falls, SD. Those flying private should come into Pierre, SD.

Cost is $2400.00 per hunter for a 4 night, 3 day hunt. Limit is 5 pheasant per day and hunters may kill additional birds for $40.00 per bird. Shells are not included.

License is not included and may be purchased upon arrival, or by internet from the SD fish and game department website prior to trip.
